ABC orders drama quartet

ABC added four dramas to its pilot slate, including the latest from "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry. Cherry's "Devious Maids," one of three pickups from ABC Studios, is an adaptation of a Mexican format focused on four amibitious Beverly Hills maids. Sabrina Wind will also exec produce. Also coming from ABC Studios are "Zero Hour," which Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Dan McDermott will exec produce with writer Paul Scheuring ("Prison Break"), and "Penoza," penned by Melissa Rosenberg ("Twilight," "Dexter") with Endemol Studios, Alon Aranya and Howard Klein exec producing. 'Zero" tells the story of a natural skeptic who gets roped into a massive conspiracy, while "Penoza" adapts a Dutch format on the widow of an assassinated criminal who is dragged into his role at a crime syndicate. The one outsider pick for ABC on Tuesday was "Gotham," written and exec produced by Michael Green ("Kings") with his manager Erwin Stoff through 20th Century Fox Television. "Gotham" centers on a female cop who discovers a previously unseen magical world within NY City. Contact Jon Weisman at jon.weisman@variety.com
